The Thematic Issue will be published in the associated journal ESEU -Environmental Sciences Europe (formerly UWSF - Environmental Sciences and Pollutant Research) in analogy to the Special Issue "20 Years SETAC GLB " from 2018.
There is a consensus that drivers of biodiversity loss such as climate change, habitat degradation, invasive species, exploitation of natural resources, and chemical pollution need to be addressed in an inter- and transdisciplinary way, as single disciplines alone cannot do justice to the complexity, multi-layered nature and interconnectedness of such research subjects. The aim of the Thematic Issue is to provide an overview of the current gaps, challenges, and developments related to inter- and transdisciplinary research on ecosystem health. Interdisciplinary articles connecting fields such as ecology, geography, environmental chemistry and toxicology, geoecology, engineering, data and computational science, social ecology, social sciences, humanities, sustainable finance, and economics can be submitted. Papers covering transdisciplinary approaches integrating knowledge and data from different disciplines and non-academic stakeholders are specially invited. We cordially invite all colleagues who can contribute to this topic to submit a manuscript related to this series to ESEU. The special volume will also be presented to academia, industry, politicians, and ministries, the DFG and research funding bodies in order to inform them accordingly.
The special volume consists of an editorial and approx. 20-30 peer-reviewed English-language articles, including original research articles, reviews, policy briefs, comments, and perspectives. Manuscripts can be submitted until December 31, 2025 via the journal's homepage in accordance with the author guidelines.
ESEU stands for OpenScience and is listed in numerous databases, such as Biological Abstracts, Goolge Scholar, Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge. The journal is an OpenAccess journal with SpringerNature, belongs to the Q1 journals in the Environmental Sciences category and has an impact factor of 6 according to Web of Science.
These articles are published in ESEU as a so-called Thematic Issue with open access and are freely accessible to everyone. Each article is subject to peer review and for each (accepted) article there is a page charge of max. 2590 € plus VAT, which is covered through the nationwide DEAL agreements with SpringerNature and institutional memberships of many organizations.
